UK South Coast to anywhere...
Present
Based in Brighton, East Sussex, I am currently working as regular bassist on the international blues festival circuit with the Loz Netto Band (ex Sniff 'n' The Tears/Atlantic Records) and I also have a regular recording and performance slot closer to home with Paul Diello and Friends (Big Chill Records).
In addition, I play in a corporate/function band alongside Andy Smith (Hot Chocolate) and Tom Dawe (Fragile - UK number 1 "Yes" tribute band) and I am a regular deputy with Southern Nights (featuring Dick Middleton - ex Gene Pitney / Mungo Jerry).
Outside these existing commitments, I am always available for session and deputy work at short or zero notice; please contact me to discuss your requirements - even if I cannot make your session or performance due to an existing commitment, I have a number of top quality deputy bass players in my phone book who may be able to assist you.
Past
I first picked up a bass in 1978 at the age of 6 years old and I feel that, ever since then, I've always had a natural affinity with the instrument.
I have developed an individual cross-genre playing style over the last three decades by combining the influences and playing elements from swing/big band, be-bop, rock, classical, cajun, hip-hop, psychedelia, soul, jazz, funk, fusion, reggae and blues.
Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have shared stages and studios with some jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring musicians, sound engineers and producers, and have played to some fantastic audiences throughout the world.
Thank you, music. Despite your mood swings, you are still my mistress.
Equipment
I've been using my Fender Jazz Bass - "The Lambslammer II" - for about 5 years now.
I usually run this through a Samson C-Valve tube compressor and into either a Hartke Kickback 15 or Trace Elliot 1x15" combo; if I need any more juice, it either goes through the desk or I hire a bigger rig.
I find the C-Valve gives me a great range of tones - from warm crunch, through overdrive and distortion and up to out-and-out psychedelic feedback! It also heats up the passive Jazz Bass pickups to an active level, giving me as much stage volume as I need without having to blow up the power amp.
I use RotoSound 40-60-80-100 gauge roundwound strings. Amazing life and tone out of these.
DISCLAIMER: I am not sponsored by Fender, Samson, Hartke, Trace Elliot or Rotosound - I use their products simply because they do what I want them to and I like the sound that they give me. However, if any representatives from these or other companies would like to discuss the possibility of a sponsorship deal, I would be an absolute fool to rule out this option on the grounds of artistic integrity...
